Let's Talk Food, Booze & Blues: A Food Tasting Event Showcase
I think it’s safe to say that Food, Booze & Blues truly kicked off Women’s History Month in the most perfect way. The theme of the event was to celebrate, uplift & showcase the talent & art of black women & women of color & we did exactly that! Food, Booze & Blues is the second collaboration with The Black Fork NYC & Discover Her Essence. The Black Fork NYC is a private food catering/personal chef service owned & created by a 25 year old African-American aspiring chef, Alissa Warren. Throughout her many educational successes, Alissa realized just one short year ago that the kitchen is her home & has since decided to launch her food business. Throughout the year she has been providing her food catering service to many individuals & organizing food tasting events. For food inquiries, contact her at email@example.com. Discover Her Essence as my loyal readers/supporters already know is a personal blog that I created as a platform to showcase my writing, poetry & creative projects. Discover Her Essence started out as just a blog one year ago & is now evolving into its own brand. Anyone who knows me, knows that I really love being around people & the reason why I put together these events is to create a space where folks can come together in fellowship for a good cause all while giving back to our community.
Food, Booze & Blues was exceptionally special because we truly out-did ourselves this time around & that’s such an indescribable feeling. A second collaboration with The Black Fork NYC & a third Discover Her Essence event. The turn-out was amazing! At Food, Booze & Blues, the vibe was on another level. Our attendees were very chill, but very inviting & engaging. Everyone seemed to be really enjoying themselves during the cocktail hour & fully taking advantage of our $25 unlimited drink special ;) During this cocktail hour, we had the R&B music blasting, the food being served & the drinks going. As I looked around & prepared for the performances, I just knew the evening was going to be nothing short of amazing.
Performances began at 7:30, & when I tell you that these ladies really brought their A-Game, I am NOT just saying that because it's my event (lol). What better representation of talented women than the performers I had for the evening? Between, the spoken-word, the vocals, & the dancing.... these wonderful, powerful & amazingly talented women really put on a show!
At our first event, "Eat & Speak" Alissa & I had to go through so much just to make it happen & although there were many odds against us we still came together & decided that we were fit to do it again. For our second event, yet again many odds against us that almost made us quit & question why we were even collaborating & doing these events in the first place. But, we realized that we are two black women with a dream. From as young as 15 years old, we've known each other to always prevail and accomplish our goals. We realize that together we can honestly make amazing things happen. & that's just the nature of WOMEN in general. We empower each other, we embody each other & no force against us shall prosper because womanhood & sisterhood is so powerful.
At Food, Booze & Blues, we used the power of our impact, the power of our art & the power of our talent to let our voices be heard. We let go of all negativity, let our light shine & exuded black girl magic & confidence. Our performers stood true to the theme & sang songs like "Superwoman". We had spoken word pieces representing the resilience of black women & poems uplifting the melanin in our skin. We had dance representing our culture through Hip-Hop & I must say; we really DID THAT! I want to again give a huge THANK YOU to everyone who performed, helped out & everyone who came.
Stay Tuned for our next event, "Champagne & OJ: End of Summer Brunch/Day Party" on Saturday August 25th!
